I have heard that once you go to a chiropractor, you always have to go.
Is that true?
Is that true?
Absolutely! We mean, no, no, that's not true! This is one of the most common misconceptions that many non chiropractic patients have and one of the biggest barriers to seeking care. The perception is often made because of how many people that begin care do continue going to the chiropractor for the rest of their lives. But, and it is a huge but, these people choose to go to the chiropractor. Often because it is the best they have felt in years and they want to keep that good feeling. Or they begin to better understand how many health problems chiropractic can help beyond the neck, back and headaches. Also it is unfortunate that many back problems do recur for many reasons and further care is needed. Once a person understands the value of chiropractic, the statement once you go, you will always have to go, will sound as silly as, once you go to the dentist, you will always have to go.
Does chiropractic treatment hurt?
Usually modern chiropractic care is very comfortable and does not hurt. Sometimes when somebody is already in acute pain and the tissues are tender and inflamed, the chiropractic adjustment may be briefly sore. Always tell the doctor if it is sore.
Of course chiropractic is great for neck and back pain and headaches, what else does it help?
Chiropractic care is primarily the detection and correction of what we call the vertebral subluxation. Vertebral subluxations are misalignments of the spine that can interfere with the normal nerve flows. Our nervous system is comprised of the brain, spinal cord and spinal nerves that go to every part of the body. The nervous system is the master control of all other systems of the body. And all the organs, glands, muscles and functions of the body including the immune system and under the control of the nervous system. The better your nervous system works the healthier you will be. Many patients that come to us for one problem, such as neck or back pain and get treated, find other seemingly unrelated problems improve. Such as sinus problems, or indigestion or constipation or they don't get as many colds, or have better energy. Many patients have brought their babies or small children to us for ear infections, with great results.
So does chiropractic cure everything?
Of course not. Chiropractors detect and correct subluxations and the body heals itself. Chiropractic doesn't cure anything but when subluxations are reduced you will often be surprised with the results.

When I am sore, do I use heat or ice?
AH, the age old question. Initially with any injury, always use ice. Two to three days after an injury I usually instruct my patients to use heat in the morning and then switch to ice in the afternoon & evening.
Why is my back and neck stiff in the morning and what can I do about it?
Stiffness in the morning has a lot to do with our sleeping postures and the fact that when we sleep, we stay in one position for four to eight hours. So when we get out of bed in the morning, our muscles are stiff from being in one position for along time. There is no complete cure for this, but, with the right exercises, most times the stiffness can be quickly resolved.
Does good posture really make a difference?
YES. We should all have listened more closely to our mothers and Mrs. Corbett, our third grade teacher when they encouraged us to sit up straight. Poor posture puts significant stress on our necks, shoulders and back, predisposing them to serious injury over time. SO SIT UP!
